Shama Float Glass Factory
The Shama Float Glass Factory, officially the New Float Glass Manufacturing Company, is a $250 million FDI project launched in February 2026 at Aboadze in the Shama District. Spearheaded by the Twyford Group through KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Ltd., a Chinese multinational, the facility addresses Ghana's heavy reliance on imported glass by producing high-quality float glass for construction, automotive, and other industries.
Its phased approach, starting with 600 tons per day in Phase One and scaling to 1,400 tons daily upon completion, positions it as one of Africa's largest glass plants, with potential to capture a share of the $60 billion global float glass market.
Investment and Policy Alignment:
This Chinese FDI, one of Ghana's largest industrial investments, aligns seamlessly with national initiatives like the 24-Hour Economy Programme and the broader industrial strategy to shift from importation to production and export. President John Dramani Mahama, during the sod-cutting ceremony on February 24, 2026, emphasized its role in reviving Ghana's industrial sector, echoing Kwame Nkrumah's vision of self-reliance.

Economic Impacts
The project builds on KEDA's existing ceramic operations in the area, which already export 60% of output to over 20 countries, demonstrating a clustered industrial model that reduces risks for FDI. Economically, the factory will slash glass imports (over 65,000 tons valued at $25 million in 2024), conserve foreign exchange, and generate nearly $100 million in annual exports, enhancing Ghana's trade balance.
- Reduice Glass Import to over 65,000 tons valued at $25 million in 2024
- $100 million in annual exports, enhancing Ghana's trade balance
- Over 2,182 Jobs during construction and 1,453 permanent operational roles
- Creates multiplier effects in supply chains, supporting local raw materials
- Over GHS 1B+ tax revenue
